Working in the wedding industry I learn something new every day. The first thing that comes to mind is the fact that every woman's perception becomes a makeup artist's reality. One bride's idea of a smokey eye is another bride's idea of barely there. Every woman has a specific vision for her wedding makeup look....even if she says she doesn't.
It is incredibly hard to produce the perfect look for someone that says they love a red lip and once you have red lips on them you realize their idea of a red lip is my idea of pink. That's actually an easy fix. Lipstick wipes off. What if she says she wants a soft, smokey grey eye? Hand her the mirror and she says it's too purple. Yikes! We gotta take it off and start over.
So, what is my point? Am I complaining about my brides? NO WAY! I love each and everyone of my brides, opinions and all. The point is: bring along an example from a wedding magazine or cosmetic ad to guide your makeup artist in the right direction. You take a picture of your favorite hair style to your stylist, why not do the same favor for your makeup artist? Having a concrete idea of what you do and don't like allows the makeup artist to be creative with your wedding makeup while staying within your particular vision.

Angela's Top 5 Best and Worst Bridal Beauty Tips
O.K. ladies, type into your browser "bridal beauty tips". Charlie Sheen wouldn't be fantastic enough to sift through all that and come out with some good, basic knowledge. I got tired of reading it after the first two or three websites and blogs. What makes this blog any different? That would be the fact that I don't presume to know what is right for every single person, skin tone, personality and taste. Tips are subjective. Common sense advise, however always works.
Angela's Top 5 Bridal Beauty Tips are basic, street smart beauty tips that you cannot go wrong with. Angela's Top 5 Worst Bridal Beauty Tips are tips that should never have made it onto a good list ( in my humble opinion of course).
I believe the only difference in a wedding day and any other day is that you want it to be one of the best everyday days you've ever had...you want it to be special. Your wedding makeup should be that way too. Your makeup should be a version of what you would normally do. So, if you are a sparkly eyeshadow and black eyeliner kind of girl you should wear sparkly eyeshadow and black eyeliner. Just make sure someone helps you do it tastefully. Yes, there is a way to do it!

1. "Do not wear black eyeliner. Instead choose brown, burgundy, blue or grey. It won't be as harsh."
Not to be repetitive, but if you like black liner you should wear it. Black liner can be beautiful incorporated into a soft, smokey eye, Audrey Hepburn winged liner or just a tight black line drawn close to the lashes to cover a false lash strip.
2. "Make sure to use products that are oil free and matte. You don't want to look shiny"
T Zone shine is not really a pretty thing, but a healthy glow is gorgeous. A little highlight on the cheeks, the brow bone and nicely moisturized and primed skin looks radiant. Powdery layers of powdery powder look like powder. Powder shows texture and looks less youthful. If you like powder foundation and a matte look, by all means stick to it. Otherwise use this rule with discretion.
3. "Choose a long wearing lipstick"
There are people who swear by longwearing lipsticks. I'm not one of them. They tend to be dry, leave 'ring around the lips' and wear off unevenly making your lips appear sunburned. Instead I would suggest using gloss only or wear a lipstain. You can also fill lips in with a lip pencil followed by your favorite color so when the top color wears off you are still left with a hint of coverage. If a little lipstick gets on the groom, it's no big deal. After all, he's going to smash cake in your face shortly after!
4."Don't try anything you normally wouldn't wear"
Of all days your wedding day is the day to do something a little special. If you want to wear a little shimmer in your lipgloss, please do not listen to the people pushing this tip. Just do it. Do not go crazy though. Look in the mirror and make sure you still look like you.
5."Make sure your makeup looks natural"
Some of us are not 'natural' we like to look like we are wearing makeup. If you can't leave the house without a full face of makeup your wedding is no time to try pulling a nude look. You will not be happy with your pictures and will feel naked.

Choose a small, pretty pouch to hold a few essentials. You'll want blotting papers, concealer for touch ups (especially for those of you having an outdoor, Summer wedding), lipgloss or lipstick, whitening gum (to avoid bad breath and dreaded food in the teeth) as well as q tips and tissue to clean up under your eyes if you sweat or shed a few tears.
4."If using a makeup artist, choose a makeup artist based on the work you've seen them do"
Don't have the salon that is doing your hair do your makeup as well just 'because' Not all salons specialize in makeup. Don't choose a makeup counter to do your makeup just because you love the lipsticks they carry. There are all sorts of different skill levels working at any given makeup counter. Make sure you are well aquainted with the artist who will be doing your makeup. Ask if they have any photos of their work. Last but not least, don't choose a makeup artist simply because they are the biggest name on the market right now. Make sure you like their style and/or that they will be willing to give you what you want.
5."Finally, never, never, never, never say that you want false lashes if you've never taken a set for a test drive"
If you have a makeup artist ask for a trial where you can try out some false lashes. Be prepared to pay a little extra for this service. False lashes for the inexperienced wearer can be uncomfortable at worst and at best distracting. You don't want to be thinking about your falsies all night because they feel heavy or you can see them every time you blink. However, if you try them and you love the way they look, go for it. They are fabulous and make any look a little more glamorous.

Professional Weddding Makeup Makes the Most of Your Photos!
Your wedding day will last not only in your memories, but also in your photos forever. You will reflect on them, show them to friends, family, even your children and grandchildren one day. What are people looking at in those photos? THE BRIDE!
